Beauty Haul

07/03/2017

Hi everyone, Happy Tuesday!!

Since starting my blog, I've also been reading a lot of other bloggers, ones with large followings, new bloggers, ones across the ocean, other local, some very niche etc etc. By doing so, I get a lot of good ideas and I can see what works or doesn't work for others.

Beauty bloggers have a world of their own, and seeing as I work a block away from Shoppers, it's hard to not be influenced by what I've been reading and what I 'absolutely need' in my life. So, my beauty collection has grown, and coincidentally, my wallet has shrunk (hahah but in all seriousness... this stuff adds up!)

Here are some of the things that I’ve recently bought (from Sephora and Shoppers) and my thoughts about them.

Caudalie Polyphenol Overnight Detox Oil

When I started working full time after university, I knew that luxury skin care was where I would be liberal with my money because I could now afford it. However, I still had the mind set of a minimum wage poor AF student, so I couldn't justify buying it on a regular basis. Fast forward 3 years later, I'm more than ok with spending money on luxury skin care!

When searching for a night serum, this one was in the back of my mind and I couldn't find a lot of other products that did what this product did for the same price point. There were a lot of products similar to it, but I don't feel as if they had the same potency to help protect and restore my skin after a full day of that Toronto city life.

The smell of the oil is very natural and organic, it might throw some people off because it doesn't smell like a bouquet of roses, but that's precisely one of the reasons that I like it! The oil sinks into my skin quickly and helps to make it soft and supply (like a baby's behind). Future me is very happy with my choice in a night oil!

Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic

You can’t follow any UK bloggers and not know about the Pixi Glow Tonic with Glycolic Acid. Everyone raves about it being a fantastic buy and how it's a staple in their skin routine, so when Pixi beauty was introduced to Shoppers Drug Mart just a few weeks ago, I snatched it up without a second thought! I currently don’t use any toners so I figured if I was going to use one, then it would be this highly rated one, not only within the blogger world, but also within the annual awards for best beauty products. I haven’t been consistent with using it as I don't want my tan to fade too much, however I am gradually adding it into my routine.

I’ve heard some people saying that it gives a difference when it’s used nightly, other people see a difference if it’s used twice a day or just a few times a week, so this is something that you would have to play around with and learn what works best for you. Something that I have realized is that it gets used up quickly, and at $20 for 100 mL, I’m not 100% sure if it’s worth it or not. Once I stop using it, I'll be able to tell whether or not it's worth it once my skin reverts back to life without Pixi.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer

I'm naturally fair skinned, but I learned to accept my pale skin life instead of laying outside in the sun because I’m smart enough to know about the effects of sun on skin cancer and aging. If you don't know the effects of it, then you don't need to worry because I know that you've never left your sheltered house in your life, so it won't effect you.

None the less, I still don’t mind having a little bit of colour on my skin, however, even after 5 days in Mexico, I still don’t look tanned, I just look more alive than before. As such, I decided to buy the Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer because I figured that it would look better for me to continue to keep up with my current colour, then to try to build up my colour when I don’t have a tan because it might look fake. I must say, after using it for a few days it looks great! Very subtle, not streaky at all, easy to apply, not smelly and the colour is very natural.

As a pale girl, I’m surprised that I’ve never tried this out before! If I’m going to moisturize my whole body then I might as well do a 2 for 1 and moisturize while giving myself colour at the same time too. However, a few days after using this on my face I realized that it made me break out quite badly so I’m only going to be using it on my body from now one. I do know that you shouldn't use a product on your face if it isn't meant for it, but I figured that it wouldn't be that bad.... Don't worry, I've learned my lesson!

Jergens also offers a version of this for your face but I'm a bit apprehensive to try it out seeing as I broke out before. Has anyone every used it before? What are your thoughts with it?

I mean, how many pictures do you actually need of some beauty products?

Origins A Perfect World SPF 25 Age-Defense Moisturizer with White Tea

As you might have seen in my previous post, I love skin care and I love using a high SPF every day. I decided to spend money on a high end moisturizer instead of something from the drugstore and boy am I glad that I did that! I narrowed down my choice to Origins based off of the SPF (most had SPF 15... if any SPF at all), the fact that it's proactive in fighting against free radicals and pollution, and that it's price point wasn't ridiculous.

The difference in the quality between a luxury brand vs a drugstore brand for moisturizer is insane! The moisturizer is super soft and it just melts into my skin. If I could change something it would be the packaging. Currently, the product is in a pot, so I can just imagine (even though I don't want to), all of the bacteria that's being spread when I use it. I like the fact that it combats pollutants because I feel like the mix between this product and my Caudalie Overnight Detox Oil makes my skin a powerhouse against the pollutants of the city.

Clinique Superdefense Age Defense Eye Cream SPF 20

Do you see a trend here with the SPF? I wanted an eye cream with SPF so that I could protect my under eyes a bit more (to be honest, I think I just wanted an excuse to buy something so I justified it by saying that I needed an eye cream with SPF). Anyways, this stuff is good, I use it in the morning and it also gives a very subtle colour, kind of like a base before you put on your concealer. It’s highly rated within the beauty world, but at the same time, it’s quite a small pool when you’re searching for an under eye cream with SPF in it.

So there we have it- where I spent my money these past few weeks! It’s safe to say that I should not be returning to Sephora or Shoppers any time soon and that my wallet agrees with me! What do you think of my latest purchases, do you use any of these products? Do you have any recommendations for similar products that are cheaper, or work better? Feel free to let me know, and thanks for reading!

    1. I went back to the store yesterday and saw that they restocked a bunch of Pixi products... took a lot of effort to not repurchase something. I was looking at the hydrating mists as one of my next buys. Thanks for stopping by :)

  13. I've used the Clinique Superdefense eye cream before. Especially since I used to work for Clinique for almost 5 years. I do appreciate this about their products: they are fragrance free, which is great for those with sensitive skin. Have you ever tried their all about eyes eye cream? It was one of the top sellers back in the day (don't know if it still is) but maybe something you may want to try in the future? Especially since it's cheaper too :)
